Kara and Adam | Tented Wedding at The Captain Heman Smith House | Cape Cod Wedding Planning

Kara never stops smiling, she is always up for a good time, a shared laugh and to have fun. I can see why she is a successful nurse and why her groom Adam fell in love and married her. I have known both she and her family for some time. Of course you read below in her wedding sketch that I had worked with her sister and brother in law in the planning and design of their stormy and fabulous wedding day. So I know these girls. So many of the bridesmaids has been at the same wedding because they worked for the groom, the owner of the most popular and fabulous restaurant, Antonio's. All of that leads up to my job being so much easier. They all listen to me and know that I too love to have fun, but at the same time I am there for the bride to make sure every one of her wishes come true.

The location always determines the style of the wedding. The Captain Heman Smith House is a stately compound on the waters edge in Eastham, MA. So you don't have to hit google earth, think the tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown. Now come back two towns and you have the historic and charming Eastham. The location and the weather yesterday could not have been better. Many felt like they had stepped into a chic hamptons setting. Kara did not disappoint. She looked amazing as she stepped off the back steps of the house she was staying at. She really did glow just like an angel. The sun caught the shimmer to her gown and the sparkle of her ocean blue eyes. I personally handed her bouquet moments before the bridal party was to head off to the church, just minutes down the road.

All of the ladies looked like they were out of the pages of a bridal magazine, so pulled together, shoes, bags, make-up, jewelry tied in perfection with a bit of bohemian flair. A perfect reflection of the bride. I cued the photographer Kim Reilly that she had about eight minutes before my bride and her father were to head out in an vintage 1950's Rolls Royce. The white walls got me, reminds me a bit of white spats that the gents used to wear in the day. There is no other day in the world that riding in a classic car, then the wedding day. I was happy to get my bride and her dad into the car and headed to the church. Her picture above, in the back seat of the car is one of my favorites. You can see where Kara gets her sparkling eyes.

Kara's bouquet was a gorgeous mound of white Dutch hydrangea, english garden roses, anenomes in jewel tones and then as an over the top touch was studded with the most rare of orchids, the purple Macarra. As she and the bridal party headed off to the church to get married, I stayed behind at the Smith Compound to lay out the finishing details to the wedding. Kara and I had worked to find the perfect container that we could fill with sand and then place all of her hand lettered star fish place cards. In the end there was not a container that fit the style of the day. SO.....I put the sand right on to the table. I have never done this before and in the end I found it to be a really charming and innovative way to display your guest's seating. You can see that I also drew (picked) from the local landscape some fluffy heads of fall Hydrangea as the base to the look Along with an antique bird cage for cards and a placard of charitable donation, the entrance table seemed to delight guests. Like an adult sandbox.

I was being a bit neurotic and had the time so I had one of my assistants comb the beach shore for native shells. You can see that they are laid out at the front of the preppy and capey place card display.

I think that it is tough to describe how good purple and pink look with orange when it comes to flowers. I think that it is clear to see that with that Kara's choice of flowers not only does it hint at fall, but is hints at summer which is just weeks behind us. The bridal party made their way back to the compound and only had a few more photos to take before their official duties were done for the day and they too could hit the raw bar and enjoy a cocktail, or two, or three, four? How many did my tipsy groomsman have? I am not sure, but we barely made it through the formal photos with Kim before I had to call a wrap. They were over it and it showed. I know, it can be a bit of a pain in the butt. I knew that they had already gotten great shots and that it was time.

Kara and Adam look sublime out on the far end of the dock. The look of love is all over her face. I love this photo!!

The cake by Meredith at Artisan Kitchen in Rochester, MA was delightful. There seems to be a trend with the old fashioned dollopy look to the frosting. Kara wanted it, so we got it. It would have been a bit plain, but the flowers took it from off the rack to couture. I worked with Meredith and her assistant to arrange the bridesmaids bouquets at the base of this elegant cake. I also picked a few key blooms (macarra orchids) to apply to the cake as the final touches. It really was so pretty. AND TASTY!!! Yes I did have three pieces as I stood in the dark and watched all of the guests having a blast roaming around this dreamlike setting.

The band was made up of friends of the groom and was AWESOME! The rocked it old school and I was right in my element. I knew when they busted about with The Fresh Prince of Belle Air, Jazzy Jeff, and Michael Jackson that these guests were going to hit the dance floor hard. I managed to see some amazing thriller moves right up until a young lady really did hit the dance floor, hard. The party was over for her as she headed via ambulance to take care of a very nasty cut to her leg. She would be all right, bummer though. I always tell the bride and groom that these are the moments that make your wedding your own.

We got the fire pit going just as the sun was setting. By the time it did set, I had laid out the lovely hand cut luminary that one of the bridesmaids was so nice to have cut and cut and cut. Their spacing and being all lit is the key and here is the photo to prove it. It took a while for the wind to die down, but it did. The lines of luminary, of all things was the talk of the night. I overheard one of the guests proclaim that it was not really a wedding unless there were paper candles......maybe he is right.

So many details came together beautifully. Russ Morin and his catering team, as always did an amazing job with the food and the service. Thank you so much for putting aside a take home treat for me. I can believe that I forgot it in the fridge of the main house. Hey I am going to see you guys from Morin's this weekend at Eastover Farm in Rochester. I am sure that it will be another amazing night.

Congratulations Kara and Adam. I thought of you guys all day. Loved seeing my brides among your guests. Wonderful, chilly, fall cape cod night. Thank you for having me as part of your wedding. I will remember it always. Love, CMP

Kara and Adam | Captain Heman Smith House Weddings | Plum and Marine wedding colorway

I keep saying to myself that I am not going to publish my work without some sort of story to it. It is hard, but here I am taking a break in my busy creative day to launch this cute little couples design rendering for their wedding. The bride, who I know through her family (did her sister's wedding in a big storm a few years ago), told me that I did not have to take the time to do my traditional sketch for her wedding. It does help me and my staff execute and produce the designs that I have so carefully planned with my brides. My bride was pretty clear that she wanted an elegant wedding, on the shore, in a tent. While there is a lot of water here on the cape, there are few venues on the water with tented weddings. She was actually the one that came to me after finding the most amazing spot for her wedding at the Captain Heman Smith House in Eastham, Massachusetts. The site sits right on the water and has an amazing expanse of lawn which extends from the back of a historic Captain's house. I love the widows walk and can imagine the late Captain Heman Smith's wife nervously watching the sea to see if her husband would make it back......dangerous business out there on the water in those days, hence the widow in the widow's walk.

Taking hints from the sea I have worked with Kara and her groom adam to come up with both a seasonal and marine look using shades of the ocean and pops of bright white, purple and orange flowers. Of course there has to be Hydrangea being on the cape and all. I will fill in the low floral designs for the table top with David Austin Roses, Stock, Lisianthus, Dahlias and many other seasonally appropriate flowers. The flowers are just the beginging to the beautful details that will be laid out under a huge white tent. Tables dressed in crisp white cotton will have white glass chargers at all of the place settings along with a strie of blue napkins. Of course the tables will be fully set for this elegant buffet reception. I can't stand just a napkin on the table.

With the tables all set, we will be ready to turn it over to the very talented hands of my good friend and partner Russ Morin of Morin's fine catering. I am always flattered that he, himself shows up and works right beside, getting the catering job done, in style of course. The menu will be divine. Adam, the groom works within the food service business and he has used his leverage to procure amazing steaks and seafood for his wedding. With Russ and his talented staff on the scene, I am not worried at all about the catering details and I can hardly wait for the smell of yummy grilled steaks to fill the air.

This wedding is tomorrow and the weekend looks like it is going to be the quintessential New England fall day. Perfect day to gussy up a bit and to celebrate and Oh Boy these guests will do just that. Congratulations Kara and Adam. We are going to have an awesome day tomorrow!!! My best and Love, CMP

Marian and Jim | Wequassett Inn | Grace Ormonde's Real Weddings

After being alone for nearly four decades love captured Maria Battaglia and Jim McAleenan by complete surprise and just in the nick of time. Maria, an internet marketing executive, and James, a patent attorney, met on a warm May night in Boston where they both attended a party hosted at a popular downtown bar named Brandi Pete’s.

Jim spotted Maria and waited for an opportunity to talk to her. It wasn’t long before they were chatting up a storm and a romance was born. An old-fashioned courtship followed and this active couple filled their time biking, running and racing their way across New England. By May of the following year, they were engaged on the rocky beaches of Rockport, Massachusetts.

Since this was the first marriage for both of them, they already knew that they wanted to be married on the ocean in Cape Cod in an intimate ceremony surrounded by close friends and family. They picked the Wequassett Resort in Chatham for their elegantly casual wedding. Maria wanted every detail to be perfect, from the flowers to the décor, so she employed the services of Chad Michael Peters who helped bring her vision to life, and even went on a shopping trip with the groom to find the perfect suit and tie.

The wedding cake was custom designed in their lovebird theme, and tasted just as delicious as it looked beautiful. When it came time to choose their photographer, the decision was easy: they chose longtime family-friend of the groom, Felice Boucher. They knew her style of telling a story through pictures was exactly what they wanted to remember their day.

When all was said and done, every detail was perfect. “We look back fondly at what a special day it was for us to share the start of our lives together and we feel profoundly grateful that we found one another … in the nick of time,” says Maria.

Ashley and Mike | Fall wedding at The Chatham Bars Inn | Sherbert and Sky Colorway

There is an art to planning a wedding. We want to make sure that we review and design every detail. They must coordinate, have a conversation with one another. But not match. That is just too easy. I remember one of the first weddings that I ever went to. There were tons and tons of flowers, however, each arrangement that I saw as a guest was exactly the same as the one that I just saw. Bouquets, the church, cocktails and the reception. All just the same. Boring.

Each element of the wedding day should allow expression of the bride, groom and their families. It is this understanding that allows to work with our clients, often over the course of years to plan some of the most extraordinary events both here on the east coast but often in far away places such as Las Vegas, Washington D. C. or even as most recent Bermuda.

It is so important the details not only reflect the bride and her family but look appropriate to the setting that they are in. Big city flashy looks odd along the sand dunes of The Chatham Bars Inn and vice versa. I never get sick of that hotel, how could you. (high voice) FAAAAAbulous!!

I am lucky again to be working with Ashley and her family to plan her fall wedding. Most brides want to be married on the great south lawn of the property. But at this time of the year the leaves start to turn and the cool of the season sets in. So, we decided to create an intimate setting within a separate building on the property's sprawling grounds. The bride, who I (high voice) AAAAdore!! and I have chosen a soft white, cream, green and soft apricot color way for the ceremony decor. From there, deep greens and rich apricots will look (high voice) AMMMMaaazing in the South Lounge of the resort's main building.

For dinner, we take it to the next level with soft linens in shades of Ocean Steel. The linens and decorative elements to the dinner tables will provide a neutral and sophisticated palete to the exhuberent displays of seasonal flowers highlighting luxurious orchids as a final touch.

Each time I meet with Ashley, her groom Mike and their family. We have a blast. Ashley's mom and I share a special bond since we, together first shared a glimpse of Ashley's amazing, couture wedding day look. I know there will be tears on the wedding day, they are brimming already as I write this story. I think Ashley's dad looks at me like I am Frunk from " Father of the bride". I can also tell he knows that he, his daughter and their guests are in very good hands with me. I always enjoy seeing them all.

We are kicking butt and taking names in the planning process. AND my bride passed the bar, YEAH!!!! We are set to check off the rest. I will keep you filled in, you know I will.

Congratulations Ashley and Mike.

Ashley and Mike | Chatham Bars Inn Fall Weddings

Shhhh, want to know a secret? While many people think that the height of Summer is the perfect time to visit Cape Cod, Fall is actually known for better weather, quieter streets and the serene charm that the Cape is renowned for. When I started to work with the Evirs family, I knew that their request for a Fall wedding on the cape would be perfect. While we talked about hosting the wedding at many places, we ultimately decided to host the wedding at The Chatham Bars Inn. I have worked there many, many times. Each time, the couture weddings that I have planned with my brides have gone off without a hitch. There are so many lovely vistas, settings and backdrop to host not only an event,  but and affair.

I am actually starting to get goosebumps in a good way. The dreary days of winter are here. I can't wait for the warm sunny days that lay ahead. Between now and then, Ashley, my bride, her groom, her mother and my self have a lot of work to do on the details to the wedding. With wedding planning and design, my process is always the same. There are times when I work on all of the details, there are other times when I work on just one aspect of a wedding. For each of the elements and services that I offer, I work with the bride and the family to discuss color and fashion details. There are times when brides come in with lots of pictures and ideas and there are other times that a bride really needs my help to pull in all of her inspiration and turn it into a cohesive, exuberant design.

I have loved the times thus far that I have gotten together with Ashley, my bride and her family. Each time, I find out a little bit more, which makes my job easier. I had the very special pleasure of being asked to accompany the bride and her mother to try on dresses. Of course, the dress sets the tone. We set off to the tres elegant L'Elite Bridal Salon on Newbury Street in Boston. I could tell that the bride and her mother were nervous. I quickly set a charming tone and relaxed my bride and her mother by selecting gowns that were perfect choices for Ashley. The dress that I have drawn above is not Ashley's dress. She did not want me to reveal the details to her stunning Monique L'Hullier gown and accessories. Instead I chose to design a gown that would look great on my bride. Let me tell you this, she stole my heart at the moment she stepped out of the dressing room. Her mother welled up, I welled up. It was a regular puddlefest. Bridal Perfection.

From that point, I knew that putting together the details to her wedding just be a matter of pulling more information out of my bride. We sat down this past Friday to discuss putting together the pieces to a wedding. Through that process, we purused dresses and color ideas for the bridesmaids. While we did not make a final desicison, we ruled out using navy as a choice for the bridesmaids. Instead my bride left with some direction to bright, rich color, from a sophisticated fall pallete for her gals.

You can see from the sketch above that we have pulled together an amazing collection of fall color.....in an unexpected way. I especially love the use of pale ocean blue linens. I think the main ballroom and it's richly upholstered dining chairs will look great with this choice.

Amy and Gregg | Chatham Bars Inn Weddings | Photography By Bryce Vickmark

It is virtually impossible to do everything at every wedding. I always have my camera with me to capture the weddings that I have planned and designed and I often publish my own photography to my own style blog. When throwing a five star wedding I know that you need to a team of professionals around you to make the day possible. To make memories possible, a top notch wedding photographer is certainly a must at a chad michael peters wedding. In the course of working with Amy and Gregg, my dashing bride and groom who flew in from Texas to be married at the incredible Chatham Bar's Inn, we reviewed lots of photographers that I was happy to reccomend. The work that jumped out at them was indeed the work of Bryce Vickmark.

Bryce and I have worked together on other events. Each time I am impressed with his tireless running and running to capture every last detail, emotion of nuance of light. His work is amazing and I am happy to have worked with him. I just got these images from Bryce's blog and had to share them with you. Each one of these incredible wedding photo Congratulations Amy and Gregg!!

Kirby and Mike | Chatham Bars Inn Weddings | Pale and Sophisticated Spring Pallette

Sometimes it takes longer than I want it to to get "the sketch" done. They are done by hand and take me many hours, literally at the drawing board. I am happy to show off the design for my dear Kirby's wedding that will be held in May of 2011 at The Chatham Bars Inn. I was just there Saturday night for a wedding. Knowing that Kirby's is up on the docket has me very excited.  I love her checking her lipstick in the mirror of her groom's Harley Davidson. So cool.

Kat & Ben | Bohemian Beachfront | Chequassett Club Weddings

When the phone in my office rang and there were two people on the other line, Kat and Ben, I knew that we were at the beginning of a wonderful relationship planning their beach front wedding down on the Cape. Kat and Ben have a west coast vibe about them. So of course their wedding would have to take on a bit of bohemian flair to reflect them. Kat and I had many conversations about the flowers and design for her wedding. She is artsy and has great taste so it was easy and fun for her to shop and source all of the pretty things that she would want to use for flowers and candles at her wedding. As we planned and designed the wedding, I got to take a sneek peek early on at the driftwood arbor that was being constructed for the ceremony. It was already amazing lying in state in the back yard. When it came to life on the beach, the day of the wedding, It was amazing. The tide receded for what looked to be miles, leaving sand an subtle pools of water that reflected the brilliant blue sky. I thought that the photo of the arch here on my style blog, shot by the grooms brother Jeremy, was inspired by the painter Dali and remains one of my all time favorite ceremony scenes. Thank you so much Jeremy for letting me use this image.

She spent a ton of time collecting trios of Indian brassware and gorgeous ruby red, violet and plum colored glass. I think one of her coolest finds were the hanging lanterns that we hung around the outside tent. So pretty, but of course, I had to be the one to a., bump my head on them and b., get wax all over my navy blazer. Totally worth the hit to the head.

Kat and I agreed that she would get the "stuff" and I would be responsible to put it all together with fresh flowers. So I am assuming that Kat also spent a lot of time on one of my newest favorite sites, Luna Bazaar. If you do not know this place, it is a fabulous resource for lanterns, accessories, lighting, candles and just about anything else decorative. We, as a company use them as a resource all of the time. I loved the Mexican cut paper banners that added a totally bohemian festive feel to the sail loft at The Chequassett Club on the Cape.

The day was fast paced as a wedding day always is. Everything came together and the bride made her way to the ceremony carrying a lush bouquet of English garden roses and her favorite, camomile. On the arm of her dapper father she gracefully made her way down many stairs to the beach, where her brimming eyed groom stood proudly for his stunning bohemian bride.

Chatham Bars Inn Weddings | Laura and Bob | The Tasting

What a whirlwind of a weekend, every minute marked by the best weather of the year yet. Today I met up with Lauren from Person and Killian Photography for a fun filled day of wedding activities with my bride, her mom and charming fiance. Lauren took the couple out for their engagement photography. She had an incredible day at the Cape's very best five star hotel, The Chatham Bars Inn. I sent Lauren and my bride and groom out to have fun while I worked with the staff of the hotel to give our client an experience in the process of planning her wedding, that she would never forget.

First, I felt ultra special to have the entire grand ballroom of the hotel and a special table (the same exact table where my husband and I celebrate our anniversary every year) as a private getaway tasting lunch at this my favorite of all hotels in the world. How can you not fall in love with the charming and devoted staff and the timeless elegance and class of this tony hotel and resort? The table and presentation sideboard laid with an eclectic and controlled mix of glass, crystal and antique silver trays was the perfect backdrop to the THREE tasting cakes that the pastry chef of the hotel specially prepared for the day. My bride wants to skip the cake, but I beg, please, please the raspberry cake is DIVINE. Bobby and I hold a majority now, and I think I might just be able to sway my lovely lunch date, the boss and mother of the bride. Of course, we must serve the highlight of my lunch the lemon doughnuts with sage sugar and blue berry  coulis. Every morsel, every presentation, every sip of wine was thoughtful and perfectly presented and prepared. Even I am totally and completely impressed. Chatham Bars Inn job well done!!

We ended our tasting and Bob and I escorted our dates across the beach and to the south lawn of the property and discussed many other details for the wedding. Champagne glasses in hand and a warm glow of the day capped off for me, a new level in five star wedding planning.

A very special thank you to my friend Lauren Killian of Person and Killian Photography for capturing these elegant details. I love keeping my camera in it's case and anxiously awaiting to see your glorious perspective. Of course you never disappoint and continue to amaze and inspire me with your photography. To Rentals Unlimited for their continued commitment to my work and their undying support in the course of this journey that I am on. To my husband for getting up a four this morning to get me the exact flowers I wanted, to my friend and personal assistant for the day, Missy who was delighted with the bride's invitation to share in the day as an official cake and champagne taster. She deserved it after getting her hustle on all day long.

I look forward to working toward an absolute perfect day for my bride and her family.

Wequassett Weddings | Maria & Jim

Last night, with weather from the gods, my bride Maria was married to Jim at the posh Wequassett Inn and Resort inn Chatham, Massachusetts. Defining "Cape Cod" luxury this boutique resort sits on the beach and has about one of the best views and backdrops to celebrations anywhere on the Cape, or in the world for that matter. The bride and groom looked as if they had stepped off of the pages of Town and Country Magazine. She in vintage beaded couture ball gown with an elegant silhouette and train. The bride carried a world class bouquet fluffy and softly scented peony and the rarest of the rare, Japanese sweat pea. She was radiant and conjured up images of timeless elegance, romance and Grace. The groom was not too shabby himself. He and I had a chance to get to know each other when, as part of my work, I accompanied him to shop for his wedding attire. His classic Armani suit and the new shirt, and melon tie perfectly complemented his strawberry blond hair and ice blue eyes.

Maria and I worked for some time in the planning of this wedding. She has excellent taste so it was easy for us to banter over ideas. She first came to me with a motif of "Modern Birds of  Feather Flock Together". The simple nods to this design esthetic come together to form a sophisticated wedding palette. Of course this is only possible with many, many details coming together in a symphony. The flowers were the chatter of the wedding. Their bold color and sophisticated design looked unbelievable against the stunning ocean blue backdrop of The Wequassett.

Every wedding that I have ever worked on is so much more work that I ever expected it to be. I am always prepared for that and love that adreniline rush as we push to the close of my work. The candles are lit, the tables perfectly set and the scent of heavenly flowers fills the air. There is that magical moment when the fire of a party takes off and last night was no exception. The bride and groom's entrance was enchanting as the swirled and dipped around the dance floor with Gene Kelley and Ginger Rogers flair and it was this moment with the crowds roaring cheer and effusive praise of the wedding, that it was time for me to slip into the background and begin to think about what I would write and what photo I would publish. Of course, Maria in her gown, with the bouquet and feather in her hair would be "my" cover shot. Are you kidding me? GORGEOUS!!!! I worked until midnight to get these photos first, to my bride as a special way to remember her day and our work together.

Maria and Jim, I will always remember your wedding. Of course, we will be friends for life. Congratulations!

A very special thanks to my friend Jenny Williamson, from Jenny's cakes. Collaborating with her is always a thrill and her work is always impeccable. The sugar paste birds in the branches, I can see in many magazines. It is about the cutest cake "topper" that I have seen. Thank you Jenny. It was nice to see you, as always.

Wedding Web Sites

Of course I am crazy about the digital world. What better way to show off your engagement photos than with your own wedding web site. My brides of course get custom. Here you see the look of the wedding web site that I am working on for my bride and groom, Amy and Gregg. Their wedding is going to be held at the historic Chatham Bars Inn so I think that the shades of grey and platinum will look amazing. It reminds me of the incredible strie of neutral and natural color that can be found along the shores of my beloved Cape Cod.

When I publish the finished work next week, I will be sure to let you know. Many thanks to Perez Photography for their amazing capture of this stunning couple. The images are so rich, filled with color and inspirational to me as I work on this digital project.

Fall Couture Floral at The Chatham Bars Inn

It has been such an amazing experience working with my bride Amy on her fall wedding at The Chatham Bar's Inn. We have both worked very hard to have our mutual  visions come to life. Today we did the demo for her floral details. It is such an amazing experience to see my sketch and all the gorgeous flowers that we have talked about for months, come to life. The flowers in this colorway are so seasonal, fresh and bold and not at all cliche for her October wedding. For me it is so important that every detail be finished to perfection, this is the difference between off the rack and couture. I put this crazy attention to detail in everything that I do....right down to the candles. I adore the fresh flower button detail on the olive velvet ribbon.

I was also so completely shocked to see the finished invitations. Amy had asked me to do a sketch of a rosette so it could be used in the print material. I think that it looks so nice and I can hardly wait to get the finished envelopes back from the calligrapher. Even the stamps are custom.....so to die for.

I learned today that one of my absolute favorites, men in uniform will make their way into Amy's wedding. Marrying a Navy man is often marked with a walk through raised swords and a pat on the behind to welcome a new bride into the Navy tradition. I can hardly wait to see this gorgeous bride her handsome groom decked in military finery against the stunning backdrop of  The Chatham Bar's Inn. Amy your moms tears said it all, we are in for a stunner of a wedding.
